February 5

Happy Birthday to THREE DOG NIGHT's Cory Wells.  Cory sang lead vocal on "Mama Told Me Not To Come", "Never Been To Spain", "Shambala", and "Eli's Coming".

Like John, Paul and George, Chuck, Cory and Danny each sang the lead on number-one songs.

With a "K" not a "C": Al Kooper (b 2/5/1944) formed BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS but left the band before they had any chart success.

He also played organ on BOB DYLAN's "Like A Rolling Stone", French horn on the STONES' "You Can't Always Get What You Want" wrote the #1 "This Diamond Ring" and produced LYNYRD SKYNYRD's first album.

Hal Blaine's resume is even more impressive.  According to Wikipedia, Hal "has played on 50 number one hits, over 150 top ten hits and has recorded, by his own admission, on over 35,000 pieces of music over four decades of work."

Drummer for the famed WRECKING CREW, Hal can be heard on songs by The BEACH BOYS, ELVIS, The RONETTES, SIMON & GARFUNKEL, SONNY & CHER, The CARPENTERS, JOHNNY RIVERS and many, many more.

The first hit for a young label means money (that's what I want).  BARRETT STRONG (b 2/5/1941) is credited with giving Berry Gordy his first hit.
