SCOTT McKENZIE wasn't "Scott" at all- he was born Philip Wallach Blondheim on 1/10/1939.
He wasn't from San Francisco, or even California- Scott was born in Florida and grew up in Virginia and North Carolina.
John Phillips of The MAMAS and The PAPAS knew about San Francisco- John wrote and produced the song for Scott McKenzie who toured with a latter day version of The Mamas and The Papas before his death in 2012.
